COTOH | Contemporary Artist 

COTOH's creative process begins by blurring the boundaries between illustration and contemporary art, or between commerciality and artistry. While her past work leveraged reproduction technologies and digital techniques, she has now returned to "hand-drawing," where human physicality is imprinted. This is not merely a choice of technique, but a process of redefining the "humanity" that encompasses imperfection as a reality of the post-human era.

The images depicted are not of specific individuals but "third presences" that stand between reality and fiction. As "simulacra" without an original, they absorb the gazes and desires of social media, acquiring a stronger reality (hyperreal) than actual existence. This is also a cyborgian attempt to invalidate the boundary between body and data, and to dismantle existing human images.

At the core of this thought is the concept of **"Hyper-Identity."**

This is similar to the state of "superposition" in quantum mechanics. The images COTOH depicts exist with infinite possibilities, and only appear as a single personality after being observed by the viewer. The self is not something that is complete within a closed individual, but a "system" that is continuously generated in the differences and relationships with others.

By delving vertically into the context of Japanese 2D, COTOH constructs "presences that demand existence despite not existing." This is nothing less than the presentation of a new conceptual device that updates the form of existence in the post-human era.
