Vol.27 Hokkaido Business Trip

Yesterday was the launch party for the LOOK team for 21AW.

It was a meeting where we laughed out loud for the first time in a while, but the price was that I had a hangover all day today.

It was great to work with such a good team.

I can't wait for the next time.

This time I went to buy fur for a bear jacket that was ordered, so I would like to upload some photos of the trip.

Normally we would go for an overnight trip, but our schedule was so packed that we decided to make it a day trip.

I arrived at Haneda Airport at 6:30 AM, and it was definitely easier by motorbike.

Normally I would ride my bike to Shinagawa and then take the Keikyu line to Haneda, which probably takes about 50 minutes.

By motorbike it takes 30 minutes door to door.

I regretted that I should have gone by bike from the beginning if I could have shortened the trip so much.

Hakodate Airport → Hakodate Station → Nearest station → Destination.

It usually takes 1.5 hours to get there, but since I didn't want to waste time, I took a taxi to my destination.

Arrived in 40 minutes.

We listened to the fur shop's current situation and then selected a brown bear.

I will choose three special order items.

We line up all the furs at once to match the fur color and texture.

Although I say all of them, they are only those that were caught during pest control, so the quantities are not very large.

The whole amount is about 10 heads.

As its English name suggests, it has long brown fur.

This time, we selected individuals that displayed as many distinct characteristics as possible.

By the way, this time we also purchased Tsukiwari for the first time.

It has a white moon pattern on its neck and black fur.

Brown bears are endemic to Hokkaido, but Tsukinowa bears live in Honshu and Shikoku.

The Tsukiwari bear selected this time was also caught in Aomori.

Until recently, people in Hokkaido used to hunt seals and sea lions, but hunting has been banned for the past three years.

Seals and sea lions also rip through fishermen's nets and cause damage to the fishing industry, so they are targets for pest extermination.

Apparently seal fur was stuck to the bottom of the skis to prevent slipping.

When going uphill, the fur sticks to the snow to prevent you from slipping, and when going downhill, the oil in the fur allows you to slide easily.

Apparently only the center part is used.

This is the fur that was used for that purpose.

Of course, since hunting is banned, we can't catch any more, so these six left here are the last.

I was shown this rare fur, but as I generally only use fur from animals I will eat, I ignored it.

Before we knew it, it was time for our return flight, so we treated ourselves to some Hakodate ramen and headed to the airport.

This time too, I was able to hear some valuable information and purchase a fine bear, making it a fulfilling business trip.
