Vol.2 Hokkaido cowhide full vegetable milled nappa
This time I would like to write about the full veggie steer milled nappa leather used in the SPECIAL ORDER.
The leather is made from steer from Hokkaido, and is carefully tanned with natural vegetable tannins at Shimada Satoru Leather Factory in Tatsuno City, before being milled with nappa leather.
Many people may not be familiar with the term, but milling is a process that creates the familiar grain pattern seen in the photo, and nappa is a process that processes leather to make it soft.
By the way, the term nappa or napalan is used to describe the back of a furrier's skin being processed to look like silver.
SEVESKIG tanners also go through the difficult milling and nappa (softening the leather) processes.
The leather is beaten to soften it, and then it is beaten dry in a drum for five hours, which creates fine, delicate grain and results in a moist, soft leather.
While most apparel brands use leather that is about 1mm thick, SEVESKIG uses leather that is 1.4mm to 1.6mm thick.
*We can also make thinner leather if requested, but...
Regular full vegetable 1.4mm to 1.6mm cowhide is thick and hard, restricting movement and putting unnecessary strain on the body, making it uncomfortable to wear.
Nappa processing makes the leather soft, allowing us to produce riders' jackets and leather wear that are comfortable to wear and stress-free.
However, the SPECIAL ORDER we produced this time is the heaviest ever.
I think the total weight is probably around 5kg.
By the way, to make a round piece of leather, we use the leather from 1.5 cows.
This time too, the garment is unfinished, so a lovely shine gradually develops while it is being sewn, and the way the wrinkles appear as the garment is worn will also look very cool.
I was asked to make a set, so I also made a pair of pants.
Some of you may be wondering whether it would be better to use soft and thin leather in the first place, but I would like to write about that in another blog post.
See you later!
